David Rees Holistic Learning Ltd are an alternative provision, based in Gloucester, for neurodivergent children with SEND including: ASD, ADHD and SEMH.
We offer a holistic,
low-demand
transition
environment…
…with face to face to blended learning opportunities for our commissioned young people either in individual or in small groups (maximum 4).
All the young people who are part of our learning hub are neurodivergent. Most have autistic spectrum differences, a good level of academic potential, all with high anxiety, often accompanied by mental health challenges.
We are commissioned by the local education authority and have strong links with partner schools all around Gloucestershire. Some of our young people are commissioned on a private arrangement.
What We Do
All our young people are given an initial transition mentor from our wellbeing team and the focus upon entry is relationship building and making that young person feel safe and secure in our setting.
Their sessions are always multisensory and individual young people are encouraged to lead the focus of the sessions from areas of their personal interest. This allows the young person to feel in control, the provision to be totally bespoke and for the adult working alongside them to be more of a facilitator/coach rather than a teacher.
The young person’s team is developed gradually, always guided by the needs of the young person and to a timescale that they are in control of.
As the young person builds relationships with the members of the team we can take more opportunities to embed key skills for Mathematics and English. For the young people to see relevance in their learning we base our curriculum on functional and real world learning opportunities.
When re-engaged with learning, we work alongside our young people; tracking their progress against functional skills level 1&2 in Maths, English and Digital Studies. We also offer the AQA unit award scheme so that all of your young people are working towards an accredited certificate. We have the facility to offer iGCSE courses for the young people who are already on that pathway.
